Introduction

Critical illness - It won’t happen to me.

We would like to think that. But unfortunately, it can and will. Perhaps not you, but a family member or a dear friend.

SGicu.com is a non-profit web portal dedicated to help you through this difficult and often confusing period by providing you with useful information that is easy to understand.

We Aim to Provide

  • Information to keep you up to speed with what happens in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from admission to discharge.
  • Information to better understand critical illness and related ICU procedures.
  • Resources for you to better help yourself or your loved one during and after ICU discharge
  • Resources for social and emotional support in Singapore.

About Us

Critical Care Medicine is one of Dr Tan Hon Liang’s greatest passions.

In his determination to be as complete a Critical Care physician as possible, he obtained qualification in Internal Medicine [MRCP, M.Med (Internal Medicine)] in 2008 before completing his specialist training in Anaesthesiology [M.Med (Anaesthesia)] in 2013.

He spent a year training in one of Europe’s largest Intensive Care Units at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Birmingham, UK) in 2011. He furthered his international experience in Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN, USA) for an additional year in the ACGME accredited Critical Care Fellowship Program in 2014 and obtained the European Diploma in Intensive Care (EDIC) in 2016.

Inspired by his experience overseas, and the colleagues he met there, SGicu.com was conceptualised in 2015.

Given the nature and intensity of the Critical Care where one Critical Care physician is only able to care for a small number of patients at a time, he hopes that in this way, he will be able to contribute to the care to a larger number of critically-ill patients.

Hon Liang is in private practice and is always looking forward to fulfilling his other passion of mountain biking whenever he can.
